Gender Justice Fund fights to end all forms of gender-based oppression through trust-based philanthropy and by amplifying community-led systems change.

What is Gender Justice?

It is the recognition of the systems of misogyny and patriarchy that have historically oppressed women, trans, non-binary, gender nonconforming, and LGBTQ individuals purely on the basis of their gender or identity. It is a demand for accountability and undoing of harm. It is the recognition that individuals at the intersection of gender and other marginalized identities require varying levels of recompense. It is the understanding  that solutions lie in policy, systems change, resolution, and healing.

Our Focus Areas:

Systems Change: Our Systems Change Grant Program funds organizations working to achieve gender justice through policy, advocacy, and community organizing.

Culture Change: Our Culture Change Grant Program funds organizations working to address misogyny, rape culture, and gender-based violence. Grantees convene to share resources, collaborate, learn from each other, and build the consent education movement.

Movement Building: In addition to providing grants, we support the broader movement for gender justice by:

  • Amplifying the work of grantees

  • Advocating for gender-inclusive and equitable practices in the philanthropic sector

  • Fundraising and advocating for additional resources to achieve gender justice

Our Values

We center the most marginalized women, trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals (including people of color, immigrants, people living in poverty, people with disabilities, and people impacted by the criminal justice system) and prioritize solutions created and led by those most impacted by these issues.

We recognize the intersections of sexism, misogyny, racism, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia, and affirm our commitment to grounding our work in the understanding that these issues are all related.

We believe that change requires targeting systems of oppression - including white supremacy, patriarchy, policing and mass incarceration, the criminalization of poverty, and economic exploitation of the poor and working class.

We believe that true solutions to gender-based violence lie outside existing systems of policing and incarceration and instead lie in education, prevention, resource allocation, and a restorative, transformative system of justice.

We embrace a model of trust-based philanthropy

We embrace a culture of accountability and learning - particularly from our grantees and the communities they represent - and believe there is value in uncomfortable conversations.

We encourage open communication and transparency for ourselves, our partners, and our grantees.

We collaborate with masculine-identified individuals as our allies, as appropriate.

We incorporate a gender, equity, and environmental justice lens into all aspects of our operations, including investment policy and selection of vendors and contractors.

We believe that there is value in community and that movements are stronger when groups and individuals collaborate.
