Funding Trans Resilience

In the Spring of 2021, Gender Justice Fund (GJF) launched the Trans Resilience Fund, with support from six funding partners. Through a participatory grantmaking process centering Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) trans and gender nonconforming (TGNC) individuals, GJF awarded a total of $170,000 to support trans-focused work in Philadelphia and surrounding counties.

With support from the Samuel S. Fels Fund, GJF engaged V Varun Chaudhry, PhD to document the process and produce a report on the project titled "Funding Trans Resilience".

It is our hope that this report will be useful to funders who are interested in replicating a similar participatory grantmaking process or wish to learn more about funding the trans community. We also view this report as part of GJF’s own accountability to the local trans community and as a reflection of the value we place on the process of holding funders and organizations accountable.
